Amy and the Panda
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

Amy was a kind and brave girl who loved animals. She loved playing happily outside too. There was a bamboo forest near Amy's house. She liked to play near the forest because the air was so fresh.

One day, when playing with her ball Amy threw it too far and it landed deep in the bamboo forest. Amy had never been in the forest, but she wanted her ball back, so she went in to get it. She looked everywhere but she could not see it.

Suddenly, Amy saw a giant panda holding a ball. The panda walked towards Amy.
“Is this ball yours?” asked the panda.
“Yes, thank you. What's your name?” asked Amy.
“Kiki,” replied the panda.
After that, they became friends and would play together near the forest every day.

One day they were playing when suddenly, Kiki's stomach growled.
“I'm very hungry,” Kiki said. “Can you help me to find some food?”
“Okay! There must be loads of bamboo for you to eat in the big forest.” said Amy.
Kiki sadly said, “Go in and have a look, Amy.”

Amy went into the forest and soon noticed the forest was bare, with hardly any bamboo trees. She saw a block of flats under construction.
“Where is all the bamboo?” Amy asked a construction worker near the site.
He shook his head and said, “Ask the government. We don't know.”

Amy called the government.
“What happened to the bamboo forest?” she asked.
“We cut it down to build houses because Hong Kong doesn't have enough land,” said the official.
“What about the pandas? The forest is their land,” asked Amy.
“Pandas don't pay for the land.” he replied whilst laughing.

Amy hung up the phone feeling annoyed.
“I need money to buy the pandas' land,” she thought.
The next day she started to raise funds for the pandas' forest. She asked people who liked pandas to donate money. At last, she had enough money for the land.

She took the money to the government saying, “I want to buy all this land”
“Okay, we'll use your money to build more houses,” said the officer. “You're smart. You'll be rich with the rent money!”
“No, I want the land for a new forest for the pandas.” Amy said.

“Ok. Well, it's your money and your land now madam to do with as you wish.” said the shocked government worker.
Amy told Kiki the news and Kiki summoned all her panda friends. The pandas all helped to plant the bamboo and they couldn't wait to eat it in future.

Finally, Kiki and Amy could play happily together once again. Kiki never needed to worry about food again. “Thank you. You could have been rich but you sacrificed that to help us” said Kiki. “Everything comes at a price. I was willing to pay because I love wildlife,” said Amy.
