Alice and Cindy Yat Lamm Lai

Alice and Cindy
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

Once upon a time, there were two fish. One was called Alice. The other one was called Cindy. They were good friends. They got on well with each other. They lived happily in the sea.

They wanted to go to the shore to explore the beautiful world. They really wanted to have a pair of feet so that they could walk on the shore.

Cindy said, ‘If I had a pair of feet, I could walk on the land. There must be something very interesting and exciting on the land.' Alice said, ‘But we are fish. We can only swim in the water. We can never get out of the water.'

Suddenly, a fairy appeared. ‘Little fish, you two wanna go and have a walk on the land, right?' ‘Can we…?'asked Cindy and Alice. ‘Yes. You have two choices. If you practise walking with your tail, I promise that you can walk one day,' said the fairy.

‘If you do not want to practise, I can change your tail into feet. However, you have to walk non-stop,' the fairy offered them another choice. Alice decided to work hard and practise walking with her tail while Cindy chose to give up her tail with two feet.

Alice practiced very hard every day. The fairy kept her words. After a few weeks, Alice could walk with her tail. She was so excited about it.

Cindy got a pair of feet from the fairy. ‘Great! I can walk like human now!' shouted Cindy. She jumped out of the water and got on the land. She found everything on the land interesting.

She walked and walked. She did not stop. ‘Oh no! I'm so tired. I wanna stop for a rest!' cried Cindy.

She felt exhausted but she could not stop for a rest. Finally, she stopped and died.

Alice felt sorry for Cindy. She learnt that hard work was very important. If we want to attain our goals, we should be hard-working. We should always try our best to strive for success.
