The Best Friends
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

Chloe, Lilian, Annie and Moon are good friends. They are all P5 students in a primary school called ‘City School'. They play together. They eat together. They study together. They had always enjoyed one another's company until last autumn…

Every year, the school arranges an exchange tour for students to other countries. This year, they are going to the UK. Chloe asks, ‘Are you thrilled about tomorrow's trip? I want to visit the schools there.' ‘Me too,' says Annie. ‘But I want to go buy cosmetics there,' Lilian disagrees.

Lilian is the only one that does not want to visit schools. Everyone goes on the plane to Hong Kong with excitement, except for the angry Lily. During the flight, Lilian sits alone. That night, Lilian goes to bed without talking to her friends. She feels lonely.

The next day, all P5 students head for a department store to buy souvenirs for their friends and family. On the bus, Lily thinks, ‘I don't want to be their friends anymore. They team up against me. Why don't they know that girls like looking beautiful?'

In the department store, all students search for the best gifts. Most look for key rings, postcards and stationary. Then, Lily sees the name of a cosmetic shop on the directory. She wants to go there, but she knows that her teacher won't let her shop there.

Lilian cannot say ‘no' to cosmetics. She lies to the teacher, ‘Ms. Ho, may I be excused? I don't feel well.' Ms. Ho is concerned, ‘Are you alright? I can ask your friends to take you to the hotel.' Lilian replies, ‘No. I just need to go to the washroom.'

Lilian rushes to buy cosmetics. She is now in her dream world. Lilian does not notice that it has been an hour since she left. Chloe, Annie and Moon are worried. ‘Where is Lilian? It's been an hour.' ‘Is she in danger? We should go find her now!'

They can't find her in the washroom. Annie and Moon begin to cry. Chloe asks the staff to make an announcement. ‘Lilian, Lilian, please come to the reception.' ‘Should I go? Are they really worried about me?' Lilian is not sure what to do.

Finally, Lilian goes back to her friends. She apologizes, ‘I am sorry that I lied to you. Friends shouldn't lie to each other.' ‘It's okay. The most important thing is that you learn from your mistake. We are just worried about you,' Chloe tells her friend.

Lilian enjoys the rest of the trip with her friends. They visit schools together. At the end of the trip, Lilian decides to give her friends the cosmetics she bought. She knows that having her friends is more important than having a pretty face.
