Courage saves the day! Sharmaine Rosalind Cheung

Courage saves the day!
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

Last week, the King and Queen went on holiday. They thought sitting on their golden thrones in the palace was boring, so they travelled to England for enjoyment. Their children had to act on their behalf, which was thrilling. However, they didn't know how to punish criminals or command people.

On the day that the King and Queen were supposed to come back, the prince and princess ordered the seven hundred cooks to make a colossal and appetizing peach jelly cake. They also ordered five hundred servants to sew endless smooth silk carpets through the palace doors.

The Prince and Princess waited for umpteen minutes but the King and Queen did not show up! As they were waiting, the enormous cake started to get smelly and rotten with bees buzzing around it. When the servants went to the kitchen, they were all bitten and scratched like monkeys.

So the Princess and the Prince decided to ask everyone in the village if they had seen their parents. They gathered the soldiers. They asked the villagers, “Did you see our Mum and Dad?” But they all said, “No, we haven't.” Suddenly, an announcement came from the palace tower.

A soldier announced, “Please listen to this carefully. The King and Queen are lost.” Everyone gasped in shock. "Please use your computer to locate them. Prince and Princess, please come back to the palace.” The next day, the palace staff were told the devastating news. Everyone was heartbroken.

A villager named Tim and his family used their computer and found the King and Queen. They were locked up in an evil castle in the forest. They were guarded by vampires. Tim and his family were presented with a golden medal, which they had always wanted, for finding the King and Queen.

Now, the Prince and the Princess knew where to go, they made a detailed map and went through the massive forest and into the evil kingdom. At last, they found the castle. The sound of snoring came right out of the scary castle, so they crept quietly inside.

The clever bad guys ordered the vampires to fight the Prince, but the Prince didn't know how to fight. Luckily, the Princess was actually a fighter! Down in the murky dungeon where the King and Queen were trapped, the King and Queen were almost dead. The Prince and Princess rushed in.

“Mama! Papa! Where is the key?” they shouted. “It is over there!” said the King and Queen. “How did you manage to get through the bad guys? They are ferocious! Oh I know, Princess, you fought your way here, right?” The Princess explained how she fiercely fought against them.

The King was astonished. He hugged the Princess happily. Meanwhile, inside the trap, the bad people were dead. The vampires turned good and later became best fighters. The soldiers told the King and Queen that they had started to make a trap to capture the remaining bad people.

The King and Queen were still wondering how the trap would work. The soldiers told them that the trap was the same colour as the forest and the bad guys will not see it and walk into it. The camouflaged trap worked! Hooray! All the bad guys have gone!

Back at the Kingdom, they had a big party to celebrate for the brave children. There were a lot of cheers throughout the night. Not only were the palace people happy, Tim and his family were also happy. They all learned a valuable lesson – Love will give you the courage to protect your beloved ones!
