Martin and the Monkey
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

Once upon a time, there was an adventurer named Martin who went to a mystical place called Monkey Mountain in northern USA. He went there to look for a treasure. Although, he knew no one had returned from there in the past, he still wanted to go to look for the treasure by himself. He was very brave.

Once he arrived at Monkey Mountain, he was amazed to see there were some guards there who looked like monkeys. They were standing at the entrance, so he threw some bananas in to the thicket nearby. As he expected, they went to see what happened. He quickly crept into the cave.

As he was walking around, he found an old treasure map on the ground near the entrance. He followed the map until he saw it. It was the treasure! Suddenly, he felt someone was looking him. He started to feel frightened. He didn't know what to do.

Martin didn't want the treasure anymore. He started to run away when he heard footsteps coming loudly and quickly from behind him. He found a big rock and hid behind it. It was one of the monkey guards. Martin was so scared and tried to run but the monkey guard grabbed him.

The monkey guard took Martin to see the Monkey King. When they arrived, the Monkey King asked Martin angrily, “Who are you and why do want to steal my treasure?” Martin was too shocked and scared to reply. He couldn't believe that the Monkey King could talk.

The Monkey King told two of the monkeys to lock Martin into the cells. Martin had intended to give up when suddenly, one of the monkeys started to sneeze a lot and fell to the floor. The other monkey looked at Martin and shouted at him, “Come with me, quickly.”

When Martin looked at the monkey, he noticed it was the Monkey King's Prime Minister. “Why are you helping me? I am an intruder”, exclaimed Martin. He replied, “Because I don't like the King. He makes me do many difficult tasks. I don't want to work for him anymore. I want to help you.”

At the same time, other monkeys ran to find the King and told him, “The human has run away.” The King said, “Don't worry, I will use magic to stop him.” He blocked all the exits with his magic words from his magic book.

The Prime Minister and Martin were suddenly stuck and couldn't progress. The Prime Minister smiled and said, “I know the King and his magic.” The Prime Minister spoke words that Martin could not understand and then they were no longer trapped. They both shouted, “Yay! We did it”

Finally, they both escaped from Monkey Mountain. Martin gave some treasure to the Prime Minister and wished him good luck. Martin knew he was lucky to have someone with him to help him on this adventure. He knew that for his next adventure he would take a friend with him who could help him if he ever gets in trouble.
