My Alien Friend Pimnara Laohaphan, Dora Cheung

My Alien Friend
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

I couldn't sleep. I glanced at the clock. It was 12 o'clock midnight. As I twisted and turned and finally started to drift off to sleep, I spotted something glowing on my bed. It was green with two short legs but no arms. “Is it ALIEN?!” I wondered curiously.

我又失眠了。 一看閙鐘,已經是午夜十二點了。咦,是什麼東西在床尾閃閃發光呀?全身綠色的,有兩條短短的腿,但沒有手臂。我想:是外星人嗎?

“I'm Maya,” I murmured to the alien.
“I am JC05 and I am from Mars. I travelled here to find my mama. My GPS says she is in Hong Kong! Please help me find her.”
“Are you asleep?”
Uh oh! It's my mom!
As I attempted to hide JC05, he turned invisible! Superpowers? Cool!

In the morning I put JC05 in my bag and went to find his mom.

Sun smiling at me, warming my shoulders.
The scent of blooming flowers.
Green grass winking,
White clouds sleeping.
Beginning of a glorious day.

We checked the GPS. It looked close to Central so we began to head there. I asked JC05, “Do you know I have trouble falling asleep?”
“Really?” sniggered JC05. “BTW, why do you keep opening your mouth?”
I sniggered back at him, “I'm yawning,”
JC05 didn't know what yawning was.

Suddenly, I tripped over a stone and JC05 tumbled out of my bag onto the cold ground. As I was bending to pick him up, a boy pointed at JC05, “Look, dad! Didn't we see this toy at the toyshop?

JC05 looked at me with his desperate eyes.
“Which toy shop?” I asked.
“Across the road…”
JC05 didn't wait till the boy completed his sentence. He used his laser powers and held me by the scruff of my T-shirt, and we soared across the road safely to the entrance of the toyshop.

JC05 興奮的看著我們。

JC05 stared into the toy shop window and I stared too, trying our very best to find his mama.
JC05 gasped, “My mama! On the second row!”
I fished out $300 for the shopkeeper, grabbed JC05's mama and popped her into my backpack.

Mission accomplished.
“I came here because I smelt some delicious Hong Kong food.” JC05's mama explained.
“Thanks for helping me find my mama. But we miss our home.” JC05 flinched.
Tears welled up in my eyes. Did he have to go?

“Don't be upset,” JC05's mama said. “We'll visit you.”
“I might be light-years away, but I promise I'll meet you in your dreams,” JC05 whispered to me.
I cheered up, knowing I would see him again. I gave JC05 a hug thinking: Goodbye my friend.
Suddenly a portal appeared. JC05 and his mama jumped in and with a flash of light, they were gone.

「也許我們相隔很遠,但我們會在夢中再見到大家的。」JC05 答應我。

The bright warm sun shone through my window.
“Morning. Sleep well?” mom asked.
“I made a friend last night!”
“What do you mean?” she seemed puzzled.
I told her about the adventure.
“…just a dream.”
But deep down in my heart I just knew that it's all real.
