The Swimming Pool
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

One bright sunny day, Tiny and Kayla went to the swimming pool for their swimming lesson. Tiny and Kayla were best friends, but when they were together, they couldn't pay attention to anyone else. They were playing at the back of the pool when their coach Mr. Hamson arrived.

Mr. Hamson said, “Hello girls!” Tiny and Kayla said, “Hello!” Mr. Hamson tried to start the swimming class, but Tiny and Kayla were not listening to him when he spoke. They were talking and splashing each other when he was talking. Mr. Hamson was angry!

They didn't want to listen to their coach because they just wanted to play in the water and chat. They didn't want to learn swimming. They were being very disrespectful and rude. Mr. Hamson had to shout to make them listen.

Mr. Hamson yelled, “Stop it!” Mr. Hamson felt very sad and angry because Tiny and Kayla were not listening to him. He also did not like to shout as he was a very kind person. He just wanted them to listen and learn to swim well.

When Mr. Hamson said, “It's time to swim.” Tiny and Kayla didn't answer him. Then Mr. Hamson said, “Let's go swimming!” Tiny and Kayla didn't want to swim because they didn't like swimming. Tiny and Kayla said rudely, “We don't want to swim!”

When Mr.Hamson heard what they said, he was really frustrated and upset. He had to shout again. “I will tell your mom if you don't listen to me!” he warned. Tiny and Kayla were a little afraid. Just then, Tiny spotted the diving board……

Mr. Hamson said, “If you don't listen to me right now, I won't coach you anymore!” When Mr. Hamson looked over at Tiny, she was gone! Mr. Hamson saw Tiny on the diving board. When Tiny jumped into the water, she started to shout for help.

Tiny was sinking under the water. She was so scared! Tiny thought she was going to drown. Kayla shouted for help, “Coach, can you please save Tiny?” “She is drowning!” The coach replied, “Hold on! I'm coming!” Then he jumped into the pool.

Mr. Hamson brought a life saving ring with him. He swam as fast as he could to reach Tiny. Mr. Hamson gave Tiny the life saving ring and said, “Hold onto this ring, Tiny!” Tiny grabbed the ring and Mr. Hamson pulled her to safety.

Tiny was coughing and shaking. She was very cold. Kayla asked, “Are you ok?” Tiny said, “I am fine.” The coach gave Tiny a warm blanket. Tiny said, “Thank you!” The coach told her, “You just need to rest, then you will be fine.”

Tiny said, “Thank you for saving my life.” Mr. Hamson said, “You're welcome.” Tiny and Kayla said, “We are so sorry! From now on we are going to listen to your instructions.” Mr. Hamson said, “Thank you for apologizing. Now let me take you home to your parents.”

When they got home he explained to their parents what had happened. Their parents asked, “Did you learn a lesson?” Tiny and Kayla both said, “Yes! We learnt an important lesson. We must always listen to the coach. He only cares about our safety.” “See you tomorrow coach!” They grinned.
