MY MAMA IS A MONSTER Lee Sharoona Hiu Man

MY MAMA IS A MONSTER
Imagine. Create. Share.
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!

My mama loves me so much! Let me tell you how I know.

When I wake up, she cooks for me. She combs my hair and makes sure I have eaten well.

She gives me great big hugs and kisses.

She takes me to the park; she swings and slides with me.

She helps me to climb the jungle gym.

She comes to my climbing games; she claps and stomps and roars my name.

“HOORAY, Mary! WELL DONE!”

And when the scary things come out, she tells me, “Don't be frightened, Dear.”

At nighttime, she sings lullabies to help me sleep.

And when I'm sick, she doesn't sleep and takes care of me day and night.

That's how I know Mama loves me so.

But when I went to primary school, Mama became a monster too!

I dropped my school bag on the floor; I made muddy footprints everywhere.

“Get me some snacks, Mama!” I roared.

I washed my hands and I splashed here, splashed there, splashed water everywhere.

I ate cake and messed the table and the floor.

I left the plate and cups where they were and left my schoolbag in the kitchen.

In that time, my mama looked different and somehow strange.

“Tidy up your mess,” Mama stared.

“Do your homework right now, you have dictation and tests tomorrow,” Mama repeated.

But I was tired because I woke up too early. After a while, I fell asleep on my desk.

Mama roared,

“Wake up Mary!! Finish your homework NOW!!!!”

“After dinner go have a bath and brush your teeth. You need to study for your dictation and test,” Mama stomped angrily.

When I looked up, I saw my mother had grown bigger feet and longer teeth.

Her body swelled to three times her size.

“It's terrifying! What's happened to you, Mama? Have you become a monster?”

“Time for bed!! You need to wake up bright and early,” Mama said crossly.

“No bed! No, No! I've been busy all day, I want my free time, I want to play!” I replied angrily.

The next morning....

“I'm not going to get up today!!” I spoke tiredly.

“Everybody is getting up for school, come and wash your face and brush your teeth,” Mama said directly.

“Let them get up, but not me, I am sleeping in.

My bed is warm, my pillow's deep, today is my sleeping day,” I answered.

“GET UP NOW! The school bus is coming!!” Mama yelled.

Day by day passed. Yay! The lovely Christmas holiday has come. I can go play with Mama and try to forget my busy school day. Leave my studies out of mind.

I am enjoying my pleasurable time with my mama.

We go to play, eat, run, hug, love and kiss all the time.

“Mama, when you get angry, you look like a monster. I don't want Mama to be a monster again,” Mary said.

“I should be considerate of you, since you just became a primary student. Take your time to grow, I love you so much. I should help you adapt to your new school life, instead of getting angry. Sorry my dear,” Mama said.

“Mama, I will manage my time better and be polite to you. I love you too,” Mary answered.

Our time together is the greatest gift, we enjoy each other indeed!

Back at school, sometimes we still get angry and our life is still too busy.

But my monster mama still loves me fair and true!!
