Mary was an old lady who lived alone next to me. Last New Year's Eve, she was sick, but she didn't have any family members to take care of her.

Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!
My mother was kind, so she went to Mary's house to take care of her. However, my father didn't agree that my mother should look after Mary. So, my mother secretly took care of her when my father went to work.
One day, Mary's situation was getting worse, so my mother sent her to the hospital. She waited there for two hours. Then a doctor came out and said, “Mary is fine now, but she had a bad cough. She needs to stay in the hospital for further observation.”
My father was angry when he knew my mother helped Mary. Nevertheless, my mother insisted that she went to the hospital to take care of her because she thought Mary would struggle without any help.
My mother said, “John, we cannot be so selfish. We need to help the less fortunate. We need to spread our love to others.” After that, my mother went to the hospital to visit Mary every day.
My mother cooked for Mary and chatted with her. Mary felt warm in her heart. “Thank you, Lisa. Your kindness makes me understand the world is not that cruel, but full of love,” Mary said gratefully to my mother.
After one month, Mary became healthy. The doctor told my mother that Mary could leave the hospital. She was very happy to pick Mary up at the hospital.
A few days later, my mother suddenly fainted in the kitchen. Then my father called the ambulance immediately and rushed to Mary's flat to ask her to take care of me and baby brother for a while. “Sure, no worries! Go to take care of Lisa,” Mary said.
Fortunately, my mother was fine and returned home. My father was grateful to have a good neighbor Mary. He thanked her for her help from the bottom of his heart. He finally understood helping others was very important.
Everyone may experience difficulty sometimes. When it happens, we all need someone to stand by our side to support and help us. We should be generous by giving help to people in need. Then, our world can be kinder and a better place.
