Katie was a strange girl. She didn't talk in class, or play with anyone during recess. The other kids didn't like Katie. But, despite all the hate, Katie was happy. People wondered how someone could be happy if they didn't have friends. You might be wondering the same thing. Katie was so happy was because of her dreams.
The Power of Dreams
Since 2008, the Kids4Kids My Story Creation annual story writing and illustration competition has provided primary students across Hong Kong with a creative platform that enables the budding writers and artists to imagine, create and share their stories.
This story was written and illustrated by kid(s) who participated in the Kids4Kids annual 'My Story Creation competition'. We hope to celebrate all the kids who used their creativity and imagination to create a story by giving them an opportunity to custom print their story, and be able to share and inspire other kids to create their own story.
Proceeds from the sale of this custom print story will help fund the Literacy Development Programmes at Kids4Kids to provide creative learning opportunities to low resourced communities in Hong Kong. By buying a Kids4Kids custom print story, you are not only applauding the future artists & authors of Hong Kong but you are also making a difference in a child’s life!
Katie's dreams inspired her. The stories she writes, the drawings she did. It did not matter to Katie what kind of dreams. If these dreams were the slightest bit possible, Katie would try to make them come true. However, if they were not, Katie would just have to draw or write about them.
Katie's dreams were important to her because dreams were an escape to her happy place. Dreams to katie were like a portal. The portal went to a place of fantasy.Katie was passionate about her dreams. Katie wanted to tell someone about her dreams, but she didn't know who.
One day she dreamed that she had friends. They had sleepovers and laughed together. Suddenly, she felt as lonely as ever.
One day during class, a new student arrived. She moved from New York a couple days ago. Everyone was curios. Katie was too, but when the new girl said moved from new york, katie started dreaming about the cool things in new york. But her thoughts were interrupted when the teacher said the new girl would sit next to her. Katie was nervous. Everyone else thought she was weird. But something happened. The new girl smiled “Hi, my name is Anna.'' then Katie waved back and mumbled “Hi, I'm … Katie.” Anna replied ”Cool!” Katie blushed.
After class, Anna went to Katie. “Hey, do you wanna play tomorrow?”she said, standing on her backpack. Katie was surprised. No one ever asked Katie that. “ Okay.” Katie responded. “yay!”Anna exclaimed.”This will be so fun!'
The next day, katie heard a knock on the door. She exclaimed “Hi Anna! What do you want to do?”
“I don't know.” said Anna.
Anna thought for a bit and said “I know! We should share secrets!”
Katie didn't like telling her secrets. This was because her biggest secret was her dreams. Katie shrugged because she didn't want Anna to think she was weird like all the other kids.
Anna shouted “Perfect! Where's your room?”
“Its up stairs.” Katie mumbled.
Upstairs, they sat on the bed. Anna said she would go first.
“Im adopted” she whispered.
“Woah…” Katie said.
Katie decided that since Anna shared her secret, then she would have to tell Anna her secret.
“I… have dreams” Katie said. Anna smiled.
“Me too” she said.
“But mine are…”
“Weird? Yeah me too.”
They spent the rest of the afternoon talking about their dreams. Katie liked having a friend.
The next day, Anna told everyone how funny Katie was. When Katie came into the room, everyone stared at her. Suddenly, the bell rang and everyone took their seats.
After class, everyone was asking Katie to play with them at her house. But the only person Katie said yes to was Anna. at Katie's house, she asked Anna why she was suddenly so popular.
Anna explained that when she told everyone about Katie's dreams, and how funny she was, everyone wanted to get to know her.
After that, Katies continued to dream. But she also continued to make friends. And it was all thanks to Anna. But, despite all her new friends, she continued to dream. But she wasn't alone. Now, Anna was there to tell dreams to.
