We look at ways of generating ideas for a story. Some consider this to be the hardest part of story creation. Ideas and inspiration are all around us, but how do we choose what to write and draw about?

Interesting stories should have a problem, which gets solved by the main character. As the story needs to be written in very few words, make the problem RELATIVELY simple but not too simple. For example, if a character is lonely and then goes out the door and instantly finds a friend, that can’t really be considered a problem to solve. If the problem is too hard – for example, if they have fallen into a black hole and are lost in space, you probably won’t be able to conclude the story in 500 words.
